This unique and compassionate program was originally established by the Coronado Police Department in conjunction with the San Diego Chargers and Children’s Hospital. Over the years, interest and support for this event has grown tremendously and is now a law enforcement tradition. The Teddy Bear drive involves every police, sheriff, state, and federal department in San Diego County.
The Teddy Bear drive’s original focus was to provide bears to children spending time in the hospital during the holiday season. In order to spread the joy of interacting with law enforcement officers, once a month a different law enforcement agency distributes the teddy bears to the children at the hospital. This allows more officers to interact with the children and exposes more children to the experience of receiving a bear from an officer. The teddy bears are distributed all year long by hospital staff. One bear can make a difference in a child’s eyes and can enhance the healing process.
The goal this year is to keep Children’s Hospital stocked all year long with NEW, unused teddy bears or any NEW stuffed animal. San Diego Sheriff's Department is hosting thiebRegional Law Enforcement Teddy Bear Drive this year. San Diego Harbor Police will the participating and collecting teddy bears. The caravan of teddy bears will take place on December 9th.

Over 300,000 children a year pass through Children’s Hospital. Not only are children from San Diego County helped by Children’s Hospital, but also children from neighboring counties like San Bernardino and Imperial County.
You can help by donating a NEW, unused teddy bear or stuffed animal. **Please note due to infection control among the recipients, all donated stuffed animals must be NEW and UNUSED with the purchase tag still attached.
